Life at Nutmeg Akitas

 Oh no, Boney Belly!

Yesterday morning I woke up about 4 am and thought I smelled something suspicious. After walking up and down the hallway and sniffing, and standing at the head of the stairs and sniffing, I decided that Babs, who sleeps upstairs every night, was probably a little gassy and that was what I was smelling. Nobody was whining or making any noise at all, and I didn't want to go downstairs and wake up the troops at that hour of the morning if I could avoid it!

We got up around 7, and Marc got downstairs before I did. He said that Biz had had an accident overnight and his toys and blanket got messy. He had brought him outside and he had pooped a couple of times and seemed settled. Well, Biz was NOT a happy camper. He had a pathetic look on his face and I realized that the prime rib bone I'd given him to chew the meat off of on Friday afternoon, was nowhere to be found. He must have eaten the entire bone. Biz had "boney belly" - an upset stomach due to eating a bone. He's done this a few times before, so I knew what to do. He had to give his stomach a rest, and for a dog who loves to eat as much as Biz does, this was not going to be pleasant.

All morning I had to put up with baleful and hateful looks from him. He got no food, no cookies, and couldn't chew any rawhides or other goodies that he usually does. Poor Biz - his blanket and toys were in the wash, and he couldn't even take out his frustrations on them! He was miserable. After a bit he gave up giving me the fish eye and went to sleep.

By late afternoon, I could see he was feeling much better, so he got some water which he was able to keep down. An hour or so after that, I gave him a couple of spoons of canned food, which he inhaled and kept down. Looked like he was definitely on the mend. I was giving him more food a while later, when a big hunk, about a half cup chunk, of the canned food fell into his food dish. He grabbed it and ran in the corner to inhale it, LOL! He wasn't taking any chances that I might take it away from him!

By evening he was fully recovered and relieved to go back to his normal routine. He's such a drama queen! None of the big dogs would ever carry on so about a small temporary change in routine. Biz is such a character, and we do get a lot of laughs at his expense. I'm glad he's feeling better today and was back to screaming for pizza bones when Marc brought lunch home!

 Happy Birthday Angi

Today is our sweet Angi's (Ch. Nutmeg's Kvit Yer Kvetchin')birthday - she's 9 years old! Where has all the time gone? Angi wasn't born here, I am her cobreeder, and we went to see the litter when they were just 4 weeks old. My eye was drawn to a solid dark red puppy with a very black mask, and I picked her right then and there as my pick. She's been nothing but a love bug ever since she came here, although the first few days when she did nothing but scream when she had to be contained were a bit hair-raising!

Angi is the dam of our Trudy and Smiley, and Mandisa. I see where Mandisa gets that tendency to give us the raspberry!

Here are a couple of pictures I took this morning of the birthday girl.

In non-doggy news, I got a new monitor for my computer. The old one came with this computer when I got it about 16 months ago, but for the past few months its been kind of blurry. No matter how Andy tried to adjust it, it wouldn't clear. I'm having enough trouble seeing small print without having it blurred, so Marc picked up a 19 inch widescreen monitor for me Thursday. What a difference! It was weird at first getting used to it, but now I wonder why I waited so long to get a new one! It's great!

I bought myself a birthday present - the World of Warcraft game that I guess is wildly popular. I installed it yesterday, but its had several updates already and I haven't had a chance to play it or even choose a character yet. This should be fun - I'm not very skilled at computer games, I'll probably get "killed" with the first monster I meet!

 Back to normal

Whew, is it hard to get back to a normal routine after the holidays! And to add insult to injury, we are having the coldest weather of the season so far. Thankfully by the weekend temps will be moderating and next week is supposed to be unusually warm. No complaints from this end about that!

I've been trying to catch up with club stuff and not a lot is going on here. I did get some great pictures of Nushi in the snow from Jenn - what a big dork he is!

Time for a snow massage!

And here Nushi is having a snowball fight with Bailey and Steve. Looks to me like Nushi won!

 Happy Birthday to me!

Today we all went out to celebrate my birthday, which is on Tuesday - but the restaurant we wanted to go to is closed for the holiday, so we went today. Andy, Bryan and family, and my parents came along for the very last minute celebration. We stuffed ourselves full of nachos and Mexican food and we all had a good time. Devin was even awake for part of the time and we got to see his very blue eyes

Here are some photos from this afternoon. First is helpful big sister Alyssa holding baby Devin

Next is the very handsome Andy.

Bryan, Alyssa, Heather, and way in the corner, Devin, who woke up as soon as the food arrived.

Last photo is my parents with me. I thought there was a photo of Marc and I together, but unless Heather has one on her camera, we missed out on that.

So happy birthday to me, the big 50 - why is it that I don't feel that old???
